A typical car too ahead of its time, the NSU Ro80 had everything to succeed: beautiful lines, safety, cutting-edge brakes, semi-automatic transmission and above all a two-rotor Wankel engine. Instead, the Ro 80 never managed to worry the competition during its ten years of production (1967-1977). The engine's reliability problems were never resolved and there were not a few owners who replaced it with more traditional Ford V4 or V6 engines. The Ro80 was produced in about 37,000 units.
