For the 1990 Formula 1 season, Williams did not change the basic design and technical director Patrick Head modified the 1989 FW13, which took the name FW13B. The Renault V10 engine had an evolution: the new RS02 version had an angle of 67 °. The car turned out to be quite competitive, with Riccardo Patrese and Thierry Boutsen who managed to win one GP each: Patrese in Imola (San Marino GP), Boutsen in Hungary. Williams finished fourth in the constructors' championship behind McLaren, Ferrari and Benetton.
