For the 1992 season, the Ligier, which had not scored points since 1989, had Renault V10 engines, albeit one step lower than those supplied by Williams. The engines given to Ligier were prepared by Mécachrome in Bourges. Drivers Thierry Boutsen and Eric Comas were confirmed. The season was below expectations and the team avoided entering the group of teams required to compete in the pre-qualifying only thanks to Comas taking a fifth place in France and a sixth in Canada. Boutsen's best result was a fifth place in Australia, in the last GP of the season. In Hungary the team received an updated Renault engine (RS03C). Ligier was seventh in the constructors' championship. At the end of 1992, Guy Ligier sold the majority of the team's shares to former AGS owner, Cyril de Rouvre, keeping only 20% of the shares.
