With the X-Type, presented in 2001, the Jaguar, which was controlled by Ford, still dropped out of the range and entered the segment of the medium sedans, that of the BMW 3 Series. Aesthetically, the X-Type recalled certain stylistic features of the XJ range, but the car could not hide its derivation from the Mondeo, moreover with not very convincing Ford diesel engines. The petrol versions remain interesting today (V6 2.5 or 3 liters). Four-wheel drive was also introduced on the X-Type and in 2004 the break, the first family Jaguar in history, appeared. The X-Type series went out of production in 2009 with 362775 built.
