In November 1966 the German manufacturer Glas was acquired by BMW, which also recovered the production facilities and all the models in the catalog, among which also included a luxury coupe, the Glas 2600 V8. Since Glas still had a certain stock of bodyworks, BMW decided to integrate this coupé into their range, providing it with a superior engine, which went from 2600cc to 3000cc of the BMW V8 engine. The car thus took the name of BMW-Glas 3000.
