From October 1964 the Renault 8 became sporty: a version called 8 Gordini came out, in the spirit of the 4CV 1063 and Dauphine 1093. The Gordini type R1134 had an 1100cc engine and clearly better performances compared to the standard Renault 8. Produced in the Flins plant until September 1966, the 8 Gordini 1100 was sold in the France blue 418 color only, with the two adhesive tapes in “Vinadher” which will become a distinctive mark of the model. The production of the 8 Gordini R1134 type reached 2626 units, very few compared to the "normal" versions. With the Gordini 1100 many promising drivers began to race, on track, in hillclimbs and in rallies.
