In 1967, awaiting the arrival of a new generation of cars, Alfa Romeo decided to add a larger and more powerful sedan to the Giulia. The well-known 4-cylinder twin-shaft engine was increased to 1779cc, while retaining the head from the 1600s. A power of 118 horsepower was obtained at 5500 rpm. Despite having a displacement of almost 1800, the car was baptized 1750, a reference to the historic 6C 1750 of the 1930s. The 1750 also had a sporting career: the performance at the 1968 24 Hours of Spa was remarkable with four cars finishing in the first four places in their category. In 1970 an update of the 1750 was presented at the Turin Motor Show, with some mechanical adaptations and few aesthetic touches. The 1750 was discontinued in 1972, with 100,120 units sold in the standard configuration and 1760 in the US-market version.
