For the 1967 season John Surtees chose Honda, separating himself from Cooper. Furthermore, Surtees, together with Lola Cars, formed Lola Racing in February of the same year to participate in Formula 2 and endurance races. The Honda F1 headquarters were also located in England near Surtees, Slough. Surtees started the F1 season with the old RA273, which remained the heaviest car on the grid. With the RA273 the British driver obtained third place in South Africa and a fourth in Germany as best results, before moving on to the RA300 with which he won at Monza.
