At the 1948 Mille Miglia Ferrari showed up in full, with all the models available at the time. Among these was the 166S Berlinetta with Allemano bodywork, driven by Clemente Biondetti and test driver Giuseppe Navone. It was this car, fitted with the new 2-liter engine, that won the race; for Biondetti it was the third personal success at the Mille Miglia. The same Allemano berlinetta (chassis 003S) was entered in the 1949 Mille Miglia, and to drive it into the race was Giampiero Bianchetti, one of Ferrari's first customers, with Giulio Sala. Compared to the 1948 configuration, the '49 166S had sliding glass windows instead of sliding perspex ones. The car had to retire shortly after Pescara.
