Designed as a development of the P153, the BRM type P160 debuted in 1971. Its main features were a lower chassis and more rounded lines. In 1971 BRM achieved second place in the F.1 Constructors' World Championship. For the following seasons, the P160 was modified and refined, being used until 1974. In 1972, with the P160B, the team was still quite competitive, although already in visible decline. It was precisely in 1974 that the British team achieved its last success in F.1, at the Monaco GP with Beltoise. At the end of the season, BRM was seventh among the manufacturers.
