TECNOMODEL - McLAREN - M20 N 5 CAN-AM ROAD AMERICA ELKHART LAKE 1972 D.HULME

For the 1972 CanAm season, McLaren's response to the threat from the Porsche 917/10 was the M20 model. Car designed by Gordon Coppuck, the M20 was extensively tested at Goodwood and Silverstone. The M20 put an end to the long series of M8s, which reached the peak of development with the M8F. The aerodynamic appearance of the M20 was particularly refined and many other elements of the car were optimized compared to the M8F. Despite the continued development of the Chevrolet engine, the M20 failed to stand up to the competition from Porsche. Some specimens were then purchased by private teams who continued to use them in the following years.
