As is tradition for Alfa Romeo, a competition version was also developed for the 6C 2500, called the Super Sport Corsa. The 2443cc engine gave about 125 horsepower. The cars had a bodywork designed by Touring, except for a boat-type version, called the “Ala spessa”. The Ala spessa won the Tobruk-Tripoli in 1939, with Consalvo Sanesi and Ercole Boratto, Benito Mussolini's personal driver. Some of the eight examples of the 6C 2500SS Corsa were then rebuilt for road use.
