The Moskvitch 412 went into production in 1969, alongside the 408/426 range. The main mechanical change was the adoption of a new 1478cc four-cylinder engine with five bench supports that replaced the old 4-cylinder mounted on the 407 and 408, still of Opel derivation. The brakes were power assisted. The car remained in production until 1975. The 408 saloon had a break version, the 427, similar to the 408 model as far mechanicals were concerned.
