Charles W. Nash became president of General Motors but later decided to go on his own by creating his own company in 1916. Having taken over Jeffery and later Mitchell as well, he dedicated himself to the production of small but highly comfortable cars. In 1954, Nash merged with Hudson within American Motors. It was the end for both brands but the beginning for the new Rambler brand. The Metropolitan was a small car built on Austin mechanics, available as a coupe and convertible. The first series (1954-1955) had 1200cc engines, replaced by 1500cc in the second series (1956-1957).
