From 1961 to 1970 the Chaparral, built in Texas, marked the history of motor racing with their aerodynamic solutions that were anything but banal and ahead of their time. All Chaparrals were equipped with the same small-block Chevrolet engine and had a frame made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. Automatic transmission was also adopted from May 1964. In 1965, Model 2 took an unexpected 12 Hours of Sebring victory with founder Jim Hall and Hap Sharp. In the same year, Hall won the United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC). These successes led directly to the development of cars for the World Sports Championship starting in 1966.
