Presented on December 17, 1978, the Ferrari 312 T4 was the car that allowed Jody Scheckter to win the Drivers' title the following year in front of teammate Gilles Villeneuve. In the face of the many innovations on a technical and aerodynamic level, the engine used remained the 12-cylinder of 2.991,80 cm³, with a power of about 515 hp at 12,300 rpm. The Ferrari 312 T4, introduced from the third Grand Prix of the season which took place on the Kyalami circuit, scored three victories with Scheckter himself, in Zolder, Monaco and Monza. It was the Italian GP to deliver the crown to the South African, also thanks to the complicity and correctness of Villeneuve who instead of attacking him escorted him to the finish. The Canadian achieved the same number of successes, winning in South Africa and then in the subsequent Long Beach race, also triumphing in the final appointment, at Watkins Glen. In the French Grand Prix which took place on the Dijon track, Villeneuve was also the protagonist, together with Renault driver René Arnoux, of one of the most beautiful duels in the history of racing, managing to beat the transalpine and take home a precious second place.
