In 1994 and 1995 Williams had the best car-driver combination, but in both cases it was Schumacher with Benetton who won. For 1996, Williams came back stronger than ever, with Damon Hill having extended his contract by a season, and with Jacques Villeneuve, winner of the Indianapolis 500, who had Formula 1 ambitions. point an optimized version of the V10, the RS08, capable of 750 horsepower. With Benetton weakened by Schumacher's transition to a still not entirely competitive Ferrari, Williams had a fairly easy game in 1996 and Damon Hill secured the title that had been his father Graham. Hill won eight GPs; Jacques Villeneuve finished second, with four wins and Williams dominated the constructors' championship, with 175 against Ferrari's 70 and Benetton's 68.
