The 1978 312 T3 was the third of five Ferrari Formula 1 evolutions with a boxer engine and transverse gearbox. It was used in the 1978 world championship and for the first time it used Michelin tires instead of Goodyears. Driven by Carlos Reutemann and Gilles Villeneuve, the 312 T3 performed quite well during the season, although it had to bow to the rise of the ground-effect Lotus. Memorable was Villeneuve's victory in Canada in the last Grand Prix of the season. While waiting for the 312 T4, the T3 was also used in the very first part of 1979.
