The initial design of a Datsun coupe dates back to 1963 and was the work of the famous Albrecht von Goertz. The project, however, was soon shelved but some of the founding ideas contributed to the birth of the studies, in 1966, of what would become the 240Z in 1969. The definitive model had an attractive design with a long hood and a truncated tail and a 6 cylinder 2393cc and 140 horsepower engine. Proposed at a decidedly competitive price compared, for example, to the Volvo 1800C, the Corvette or the Jaguar E-Type, the Datsun 240Z had a long production until 1974 and also had a prestigious competitive career, mainly in rallies but also on track.
