1996 saw the disappearance of the DTM in favor of the ITC, which became the world championship and with 13 races on the calendar. The 155 for the 1996 ITC was a further evolution of step2: wider track, improved transmission thanks to the X-Trac gearbox, while the 2497cc V6 engine reached 460 horsepower. Aerodynamics were being perfected. Over the course of the season the engine reached 490 horsepower. The victories of Nannini and Larini and the competitiveness of all the other drivers were not enough to counter the Opel Calibra of Manuel Reuter, who won the title at the last race in Brazil.
