The LC2 was Lancia's weapon to compete in the endurance world championship, after the 1982 experience with Group 6. The LC2 complied with the Group C regulations and debuted at the beginning of the 1983 season. Made in collaboration with Dallara, the LC2 was a conceptually very advanced car. The engine was an 8-cylinder of Ferrari derivation, and in the first year, with a displacement of 2599cc, it developed about 680 horsepower. Starting from the second half of 1984, the displacement was increased to 3014cc, with powers that in test were around 1000hp. While boasting performance often outperforming its Porsche 956 and 962C rivals, the LC2 was plagued by chronic reliability issues. In the course of three seasons the car nevertheless won three races valid for the endurance world championship. At the end of 1985 the LC2 program was interrupted by Lancia, which decided to focus on Group B in rallies. Some chassis' in the hands of private stables continued to be raced until the early nineties.
