In the mid-fifties, the collaboration between Maserati and Frua continued thanks to the intervention of the Roman dealer Mimmo Dei, owner of the Center-South Scuderia. Dei commissioned a series of about ten Spiders from Frua on the mechanics of the 2000 GT. The engine was a 1985cc 6-cylinder in-line engine with 150 horsepower at 6000 rpm. The first example, built for Dei himself on chassis number 2104, had a particularly striking livery: the bodywork was painted in blue with an ivory-colored band that ran longitudinally along the bonnet and with the hazelnut-colored interior upholstery.
