Following in the footsteps of the volcanic Uno Turbo i.e., the Punto GT tried to reinterpret the same concepts but in the style of the nineties, i.e. with greater comfort and better production standards. The sporting version of the Punto was introduced together with the other engines in 1993. The engine was the well-known 1372cc 4-cylinder, with a power of 130-136hp (according to anti-pollution regulations). The set-up had been studied according to the best performances. The Punto GT was capable of over 200 km/h top speed with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7"9. The car remained in production until 1999, the year of the introduction of the Punto mk.II.
