In March 1967 the Lamborghini Marzal was presented, a prototype that was supposed to prefigure an elegant, comfortable but also fast 4-seater car. For reasons of cost containment, the Miura chassis had to be used, albeit with an increased wheelbase and track. The very original bodywork was designed by Bertone. To ensure sufficient roominess, the Miura's massive V12 became a 1965cc in-line 6-cylinder, with a power of around 175hp, enough for a top speed of 225km/h. The Marzal had no productive sequel but anticipated the arrival of the first Espada, a four-seater GT with which Lamborghini wanted to challenge Ferrari.
