The second generation of the Ford Cortina appeared in 1966, offered in the same general forms as the first series but with a more modern and slightly larger body. From a mechanical point of view, the 1300cc engine replaced the 1200cc at the economic base of the range. The Lotus sports version was produced again, with a 1558cc (82.55x72.75) 4-cylinder twin-cam engine, capable of 109hp at 6000 rpm. The car was capable of significantly superior performance to other versions, also standing out in rallies and track races. Production of the Cortina II Lotus ceased in 1970.
