From 1938 a new international formula came into force with the aim of limiting engine power and performance. We went from a formula that practically prescribed only a minimum weight of 750 kg, we moved to a subdivision between free-feeding engines with a maximum displacement of 4500cc and supercharged ones with a limit of 3000cc. Ernesto Maserati designed the 8C TF model (8 cylinders, fixed head) by choosing supercharging. The 8C TF was an excellent car, powerful (365 hp), stable and very competitive and fielded by Mike Boyle, it was the first Italian car to win at Indianapolis, in 1939 and in 1940 with Wilbur Shaw, reaching the third in 1941.
