In 1965 Ferrari presented a new small sport-prototype, equipped with the 1600cc V6 Dino engine. The car made its debut at the Monza 1000km in 1965, with Baghetti and B Caldo. The 166P proved to be competitive and achieved the best results in the 1965 European mountain championship, winning the victory with Scarfiotti; that car had a special spyder body and a 2000cc engine.
