2008 was the last year for the Honda team in Formula 1. The entire structure was taken over by Ross Brawn, who also secured the supply of Mercedes engines. Thus was born the Brawn GP. In reality, the new car was designed from completely new bases, after Brawn realized that the body of the Honda RA108 would not be competitive. The Brawn team took full advantage of the possibilities granted by the new regulation, also adopting a double diffuser that caused much discussion. This solution was also adopted by Williams and Toyota. After an exceptional and surprising start to the season, Jenson Button managed to accumulate such an advantage that he could no longer be reached by Vettel at the wheel of the Red Bull. Button thus became world champion, with 6 GP wins, while his teammate Barrichello finished third, with 2 GP wins. Brawn also won the constructors' title, with 172 points, ahead of Red Bull and McLaren. At the end of 2009, Brawn was taken over by Mercedes, which planned its return to F.1 for 2010.
