In the early seventies, AMG prepared a Mercedes 300 SEL with a 6.8-liter V8 engine. The car was entered in some endurance races and achieved an astonishing second position at the 1971 24 Hours of Spa. Other participations of the car were the 1972 Nurburgring 24 Hours and the April tests of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, again in 1972.
