Conceived in 1979, the Williams FW07 improved the concept of "wing car" started by Lotus in the Formula 1 World Championship. Designed by Patrick Head, this single-seater made simplicity its winning weapon. Fielded mainly by the official team in 1979, during that year it proved to be highly competitive especially during the second part of the season. With this car Australian Alan Jones scored four wins, in Germany, Austria, Holland and Canada. But to bring it for the first time to success was his teammate Clay Regazzoni, who won at Silverstone circuit with the chassis that in 1980 was used in seven Grand Prix by Rupert Keegan, but under the management of RAM Racing. Built on a monocoque aluminum frame, the Williams FW07 had a Ford Cosworth DFV 8V 90 ° longitudinal rear engine of 2,995 cm³, with a maximum power of 490 hp at 11,700 rpm. Its development, the FW07B, won the 1980 drivers’ title with Jones and the Manufacturers title.
