Benetton began the 1991 F1 world championship with an updated version of the previous year's B190. From the San Marino GP to Imola the new B191 was ready, a rather competitive car that allowed Piquet to win in Canada. His teammate, Moreno, obtained two fourth places as best results. Moreno was then replaced in the last five GPs of the season by Michael Schumacher, whom Briatore had managed to snatch from Jordan after his promising debut at Spa. At the end of the season, Benetton was fourth in the constructors' championship behind McLaren, Williams and Ferrari.
