For the 1998 F1 season, Tom Walkishaw's team was looking for an alternative to the disappointing Yamaha engine. In late 1997, Arrows acquired the facility from Brian Hart, who designed a new 72-degree V10 unit. The car, designed by John Barnard, proved to be excessively complicated and despite the efforts of the team the results were poor. Arrows finished in 7th place in the constructors' ranking with 6 points. Salo obtained fourth place in Monte Carlo as best result, while Diniz was fifth in Belgium.
