Carrozzeria Touring had an excellent relationship with Alfa Romeo, which dated back to the pre-war years: just think of the 8C and 6C models. After the war the collaboration resumed with the 1900 and 2000 Spider Tipo 102. From 1961 Touring produced the bodywork for the 2600 Spider Tipo 106 and when Alfa Romeo put this car out of production, the almost obligatory step was to turn to Touring, with the condition of starting from the Tipo 105. Rather than redesigning the entire bodywork it was decided to take a 105.02 and simply cut the roof. This operation obviously made necessary a whole series of modifications and reinforcements to the chassis, especially in the area behind the rear seats. The engine remained the 005.02 with 1570cc and 106hp from the Giulia Sprint GT. The official launch of the GTC took place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1965, together with the presentation of the Giulia Super type 105.26. The Giulia GTC was not a great sales success and production ceased during 1966, after Touring encountered financial difficulties and had to close.
