If the 403 in the cabriolet version had disappointed because of its lack of originality, for the 404 cabriolet Peugeot decided to turn to Pininfarina, who designed a very elegant body, even if not completely new, since it was quite reminiscent of that of some Fiats. At its launch in September 1961, the 404 convertible was available with the 72 horsepower XC engine, then with the 85 horsepower XCKF injection engine. Production of the 404 convertible continued until October 1968, when the 404 range began to shrink after the presentation of the new 504 in Paris.
