The Minardi M189 debuted in the fourth grand prix of the 1989 season, proving to be quite competitive, and certainly the best Minardi built up to that moment. Designed by Aldo Costa and Nigel Couperthwaite, the M189 achieved excellent results especially with Pierluigi Martini, but also with Paolo Barilla and Luis Sala.
