The Alpine version of the Renault 12 had a completely independent life from the European market. It was in fact produced in Argentina in 1978, where the local Renault subsidiary wanted to rejuvenate the image of the car, now quite dated. The engine was the 110 horsepower 1397cc 4-cylinder engine derived from the R5 Alpine and assembled on site with parts from France. The decoration was quite original, with gold Alpine rims, stripes and lettering on a black body.
