The 19 16S, launched in 1990, put an end to the series of turbocharged Renault sports cars. Long awaited, the sports version offered alloy wheels, lowered suspension and rear spoiler. The engine went from 1721 to 1764cc, with a 16-valve cylinder head. The performance, however, was certainly not exciting even if the behavior on the road was healthy and without nasty surprises. Available in 3, 4 and 5-door versions, the 19 sports car was renamed 16V in 1992, when it underwent a restyling. About 80,000 units were produced until 1996.
