Not yet a Ferrari but almost: shortly before Italy entered the war, Enzo Ferrari, whose contract still in existence with Alfa Romeo prevented him from producing cars with his family name, invented the Auto Avio Costruzioni brand, developing a racing car based on the Fiat 508C, whose 8-cylinder engine was an assembly of two 4-cylinder units of the 508 itself. The displacement was 1497cc for a power of over 70 hp. Two units were built, both with Touring bodywork, which dominated their category at the 1940 Mille Miglia before retiring. The AAC 815 was eventually raced again being entered in some events after WW2.
