At the beginning of the seventies, the collaboration between Fiat and the Swiss Filipinetti team led to the development of a program in the European tourism championship with the 128 (sedan and coupé). Initially, the 1116cc version of the engine had to be used, which by regulation could only be increased up to 1150cc. With 108 horsepower, the 128 1150cc did not pose a serious threat to the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAj 1300, which dominated the 1st Division. In mid-1971 the 1300cc engine of the 128 Rally was homologated and things improved considerably. The commitment of Scuderia Filipinetti lasted until the end of 1972 with some good results.
