At the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1951, Mercedes presented two new models with 6-cylinder engines: the 200 and the 300. If the former was deliberately simple and rather spartan, the 300 was deliberately placed in the great tradition of prestige of the brand. Built on the now classic structure of the steel tube frame with an oval section in the shape of an X, the 300 was equipped with a rather sophisticated suspension with hydraulic shock absorbers and front anti-roll bars, inspired by the 1939 Grand Prix cars. The engine, from 2996cc , would have developed a power of up to 160 horsepower, with the 1957-1962 versions. There were various body configurations: convertible, sedan, limousine, roadster.
