At the end of 1959 the long series of Ferrari 250 GTs was enriched with a very important model, equipped with sporting qualities that would have made it successful: the 250 GT Berlinetta, also known as SWB (“short wheelbase”). The new car had a rounded body and quite different from the previous 250 GTs. Production went on until 1962, with two fairly distinct series. Competition versions were distinguished, with aluminum bodywork and “luxury”, with steel bodywork and more street finishes. The exceptional 3-liter 60 ° V12 was also used on the SWB which, depending on the version, produced between 240 and 280 horsepower. The SWB obtained important overall victories (Tour de France, Intereuropa Cup in Monza, Tourist Trophy), obtaining countless successes in the GT class.

This SWB, chassis number 1931GT, was entered in the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans by the North American Racing Team. Driven by Arents and Connell, it ranked fifth overall, covering 4030.271 km at an average speed of 167.928 km/h.

BBR-MODELS
