The spyder version of the Porsche 908, again with a 3-liter engine, made its debut in 1969 and proved very effective, winning a difficult race like the Targa Florio. The 908/02 also received a more aerodynamic body, with more squared lines, called "Flounder", which confirmed its competitiveness in 1970. The 908/02 was a valid alternative to the 917 on a certain type of circuit. In subsequent seasons, many private teams used the 908/02 Flounder.
