Presented for the first time at the 1969 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Mercedes C111 has always been considered a meeting point between present and future in the automotive sector. It associated a cutting-edge design with cutting-edge technological concepts, such as the rotary engine. Mercedes had acquired the designs of this type of engine from NSU in 1961 and in 1968 decided to study its application for production coupé. Despite several stages of development and even record versions, the C111 never went on the market, but continued to inspire, especially stylistically, a whole generation of cars.
