In the late 1960s, Reliant asked Ogle to redesign the Scimitar as a sports estate. This idea had been liked by Reliant and other British manufacturers for some time (just think of the 1952 Allard Safari or the 1959 Tornado Typhoon). The new Scimitar GTE marked an era, influencing several other brands. In 1975 the new series (SE6) of the GTE was introduced, larger and with an extended wheelbase. The Scimitar's engines were derived from Ford. The SE6, produced in around 550 units, was replaced by the SE6A (around 3900 units produced), further improved and then by the SE6B (1982-1986, around 450 units).
