The 8 Gordini 1100 (R1134) having been well rated by enthusiasts, Renault decided to come out with a further improved version. For the 8 Gordini second version (type R1135), produced from June 1966 to September 1970, the 1300 engine was chosen. But the new R1135 was not simply a more powerful R1134: the technicians had intervened everywhere in the chassis and mechanics to improve the car behavior. The Gordini 1300 was produced in almost 9000 units. With the 8 Gordini, Renault began to organize a successful single-brand championship, destined to continue for a very long time with the 12 Gordini, the 5 Alpine, the 5 Alpine Turbo and so on.
