After two years with the Ford Cosworth, the Mirage received the new Renault V6 turbo engine for 1977, with which it faced the 24 Hours of Le Mans, alongside the official Alpine Renault, which were now openly aiming for victory. The Porsche won the race, with Vern Schuppan and Jean-Pierre Jarier's Mirage M9 taking an honorable second place.
