Simplicity, effectiveness and above all reliability. Thus the three main characteristics of the Williams FW07B can be summarized, which dominated the 1980 Formula 1 World Championship with Alan Jones and Carlos Reutemann. Derived from the FW07 that had been designed by Patrick Head, out of a total of 14 Grands Prix, this car finished 21 times in the points area. Thanks also five victories, the first obtained in Argentina still with the previous model, Australian Jones conquered the title, his teammate finishing third. Equipped with the 2,993 cm³ Cosworth DFV 8-cylinder engine, with a power of 475 hp, combined with a 5-speed manual Hewland gearbox plus reverse, it weighed 585 kg. The chassis was an aluminum monocoque, with a wheelbase of 2,692 mm. In 1981 his place was taken by the FW07C which immediately won the first two Grand Prix of the season always with Jones and Reutemann.

After the victory in the opening GP in Argentina 1980 with the 1979 FW07, Alan Jones had the advanced FW07B version at his disposal with which he achieved his first success in France, at Paul Ricard. From that moment on, Jones was the protagonist of an excellent season, becoming world champion with 71 points (5 wins, 3 poles and 5 fastest laps).
