The injection version, called 2002tii, replaced the BMW 2002ti in April 1971. The engine (type M15) remained the 1990cc modified with the adoption of a Kugelfischer PLO-4 indirect injection system in place of the two double-barrel carburettors of the 2002ti . The power thus rose from 135 to 147 HP. Some technical improvements (engine and gearbox) were introduced during 1972 and in 1974 an "L" (Luxury) trim level was available which was extended to the entire 02 range. In June 1975 the various 02s gave way to the different versions of the new 3 series E21.
