In 2022, riding his Ducati, Pecco Bagnaia achieved the first entirely Italian title since 1972, fifty years after the legend Giacomo Agostino with MV Agusta. Moto2 champion in 2018, he moved to MotoGP the following year and soon confirmed himself as one of the most promising riders. Already in 2021, with the Ducati Lenovo, he came close to the title, which went to Fabio Quartararo, but in 2022 Bagnaia was even more competitive and achieved the final success, winning 7 GPs out of 20. In that year, Ducati also won the constructors' title.
