After a positive 1994, the Tyrrell team faced the 1995 season with optimism. A two-year extension was signed with Yamaha engine supplier and Katayama was confirmed. Mika Salo took the place of Blundell instead. Unfortunately, the 023 turned out to be a rather difficult car, with several problems never fully resolved. Too many accidents, especially by Katayama, conditioned the season that saw Tyrrell get only five points, all led by Salo with two fifths and a sixth place. At the European GP Tarquini replaced Katayama, injured in Portugal after a collision at the start with Badoer's Minardi.
